The Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission (KESIEC) announced on Sunday, September 1, that the All Progressives Congress (APC) swept all seats in the local council elections held on Saturday. KESIEC Chairman, Aliyu Mera, disclosed in Birnin Kebbi that APC won all 21 chairmanship positions and 225 ward councillor seats.

Mera noted that 17 political parties, including APC, NNPP, LP, AAC, Boot Party, AP, and SDP, participated in the elections. He confirmed that the commission approved the chairmanship results as submitted by the returning officers from each local government area, as well as the councillorship results from the electoral wards.

He commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections and expressed gratitude to the security agencies and other stakeholders for their cooperation.

However, the PDP boycotted the elections, alleging bias within KESIEC. The party claimed that the commission’s members were aligned with the APC, leading them to doubt the fairness of the election process.
