In a notable advancement for gender diversity within the Nigeria Police Force, Inspector General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has made a significant appointment by naming Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Rhoda Adetutu Olofu as the new Force Secretary. This decision represents a meaningful step in the ongoing efforts to promote inclusivity within the force, as AIG Rhoda becomes one of the highest-ranking female officers to hold such a critical position.

AIG Rhoda Adetutu Olofu brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Before this appointment, she served as the AIG in charge of the Maritime Police Command at the Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos, making her the 20th person and only the third woman to lead the Maritime Command. Her tenure in that position was marked by a strong track record of leadership and operational success, contributing significantly to the command’s effectiveness.

The decision to appoint AIG Rhoda as Force Secretary is in line with the Inspector General’s broader vision of enhancing the operational efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force. This move also aligns with recent gender policy reforms aimed at increasing the representation of women in leadership positions within the police force. By promoting AIG Rhoda, the IGP is not only emphasizing the importance of gender inclusivity but also recognizing the diverse talents and capabilities that female officers bring to the table.

This appointment reflects a broader shift within the Nigeria Police Force and aligns with global trends in law enforcement, where there is a growing recognition of the value of diverse leadership. Studies have shown that diversity in leadership can lead to improved community relations and more effective policing, as it brings a range of perspectives and approaches to solving complex challenges.

As the Nigeria Police Force continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of the nation, the Inspector General of Police remains committed to the progressive development of the force. This includes a steadfast dedication to promoting gender inclusivity and ensuring that capable officers, regardless of gender, have the opportunity to contribute to the force’s mission of maintaining peace, law, and order across the country.
