The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reassured its members and the public of a seamless and successful state congress set to take place today, Saturday. Usman Okai Austin, the Chairman of the Kogi State PDP Congress Committee, issued a statement on Saturday, confirming that all preparations have been completed to ensure the congress is conducted in a free and fair manner, fully complying with legal and constitutional requirements.
Okai expressed optimism that the congress will lead to the establishment of a new state working committee, which will revitalize party activities and strengthen its position as a formidable opposition force ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing circulating rumors about potential legal challenges, Okai dismissed them as mere political chatter, emphasizing that no court orders or summons exist against the congress.
He acknowledged that dissatisfaction is a common occurrence in contested electoral processes, particularly among those displeased with the outcomes.
The committee also highlighted the successful completion of the three-man ad-hoc delegate process, with an appeals committee already formed and inaugurated. The party urged all delegates and members to strictly adhere to the established rules and regulations, assuring them that robust security measures are in place for delegates traveling from all 21 local government areas of the state.
Additionally, the party rejected any speculation about the possibility of another congress, labeling such ideas as mere wishful thinking.
