The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has once again rescheduled the local government elections, now set for January 18, 2025. Dr. Joseph Aremo, the ODIEC Chairman, announced the new date during a stakeholders’ meeting at the commission’s headquarters in Akure, the state capital.

The election, originally planned for December 16, 2023, had been postponed multiple times—first to February 17, then to July 13—before being indefinitely delayed until the recent announcement of the new date. Aremo assured the public that the commission is fully prepared to conduct a transparent, free, and fair election.

He also called on political parties that had already held primaries before the previous postponements to submit their finalized list of candidates to the commission. Additionally, Aremo mentioned that the distribution of non-sensitive materials to the 18 local governments would occur between January 6 and January 10, 2025.

Mr. Olaoluwa Adesanya, the State Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), expressed his approval of ODIEC’s plans and assured both the commission and residents that IPAC would participate in the upcoming election.
