Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi are currently attending the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago as special guests of the National Democratic Institute (NDI). Former Senate President Ken Nnamani was also invited, but the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, did not attend.
The NDI, a prominent U.S.-based non-profit dedicated to advancing democratic values globally, is hosting the convention. Osinbajo’s attendance underscores his expanding international profile and engagement since his departure from office in May 2023.
The Democratic National Convention is a key event in the U.S. political calendar, providing a platform for the Democratic Party to discuss major policies, strategies, and formally nominate its presidential candidate, Kamala Harris. The convention also serves as a venue for global leaders and stakeholders to participate in discussions that may influence international political trends.
