Thousands have been evacuated as massive wildfires advance toward Athens, with flames reaching up to 25 meters high. Homes and properties in suburbs like Varnavas and northeastern areas of the Greek capital, including a school in Nea Penteli, have been engulfed by the fire.
As night falls, firefighting aircraft are grounded, leaving the battle to ground crews. Residents, frustrated by the lack of fire trucks and personnel, have called for international aid, with assistance expected from several countries, including Spain, Italy, and France. According to fire brigade spokesman Vassilis Vathrakogiannis who spoke on Monday, Strong winds are worsening the situation, forcing emergency evacuations across affected areas.
