At 38 years of age, Real Madrid captain Luka Modric has signed a one-year contract extension with the Spanish champions.

Modric has won 26 trophies, including six Champions League titles and four domestic league titles, since joining Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2012.

The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner has played in 534 matches for Los Blancos, scoring 39 goals.

The Croatian midfielder played 46 times across all competitions in the 2023-24 season but started in only 23 of those games.

Modric started in all three of Croatia’s matches at Euro 2024, with the team being eliminated after finishing third in their group.

The midfielder’s contract was set to expire at the end of June, but his extension ensures that manager Carlo Ancelotti will have his experience to rely on as he prepares for his 13th season at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid has also completed the high-profile signing of Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain, with the French striker officially unveiled on July 16.

Additionally, teenager Endrick has been signed from Brazilian side Palmeiras to strengthen the 15-time European champions.
