Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his condolences regarding the attack on former President Donald Trump, describing the incident as “distasteful and beyond the pale of democratic norms.”
The apparent assassination attempt occurred at a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024, resulting in one death and two critical injuries. Trump’s campaign reported that the presumptive Republican nominee is “fine” after being swiftly removed from the stage, although he sustained a gunshot wound to the upper part of his right ear.
The Secret Service stated that the suspected shooter, who attacked from an elevated position outside the venue, was killed.
President Tinubu released a statement on his official X account, saying, “The attack on former President Donald Trump is distasteful and goes beyond the pale of democratic norms. Violence has no place in democracy.
I extend my sympathies to the former President and wish him relief. I also condole with the family of the deceased and those wounded and wish them a quick recovery. Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time.”
