The Governor of Ogun state who also happens to be the Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum (SGF) Prince Dapo Abiodun, has extended his heartfelt condolences to Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, and the people of Abia State, following the killing of two police officers in Umuahia, the state capital, on Friday.
In a condolence message he personally signed on Monday, Governor Abiodun condemned the heinous act, describing the perpetrators as enemies of both the state and Nigeria who will be apprehended and brought to justice.
He urged the residents of Abia State to support Governor Otti in combating the menace of insecurity by remaining vigilant and providing credible information about criminal activities in their communities.
Abiodun also called on the police and other security agencies to swiftly apprehend the assailants to reassure the residents of their safety.
Furthermore, he reiterated the Southern Governors Forum’s call for the establishment of state police, emphasizing that its introduction would aid in resolving local crimes more effectively.
“I sincerely commiserate with the government and the people of Abia State over the killing of security operatives. The issue of security is too important to be left solely to security agents.
“I urge the people of the state to collaborate with security agencies by providing credible information to prevent criminal activities.
“Clearly, every crime has a local aspect. It is on this note that I call on the Federal Government once again to consider state policing as a means to strengthen our security architecture, particularly in local intelligence gathering at the community level,” Abiodun stated.
