The Abia State Government has lifted the restriction on tricycle and motorcycle operations in the state.
The announcement was made by the state Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, on Monday in Umuahia.
Initially, the state government had set July 1, 2024, as the start date for limiting tricycle and motorcycle operations between 7 pm and 6 am.
The statement revealed that the suspension followed numerous public appeals.
Part of the statement reads: “This is to inform the general public that the planned restriction of the operations of Tricycles [keke] and Motorcycles [Okada] by the Abia State Government between the hours of 7:00 pm and 6:00 am, which was to begin today, Monday, July 1, 2024, has been postponed to August 1, 2024.
“However, the enumeration and registration of all commercial vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles in the transport sector in Abia state will commence today as scheduled.
“This adjustment is to allow more time for Abians to prepare for the effective implementation and enforcement of the policy.”
