Troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested the suspected mastermind behind the deadly attack on Mararaban Azagwa village in Bali Local Government Area, Taraba.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the attack last week resulted in several deaths, including that of a 92-year-old man.
In a statement on Thursday, Lt. Olubondunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Information for the brigade in Jalingo, revealed that the troops acted swiftly following the June 16 attack, which claimed five lives and left many injured. The 20 Model Battalion Sub-Sector 3A OPWS, stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Bali, launched a special operation based on credible intelligence.
This operation led to the arrest of 39-year-old Hassan Ibrahim, also known as Godu. During his capture, a Dane gun, cartridges, and a motorcycle belonging to one of the victims were recovered. Ibrahim has confessed to his involvement in the attack and is currently cooperating with authorities to identify his collaborators.
Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, commander of the 6 Brigade Sector 3 OPWS, praised the public for providing vital information that led to the suspect’s arrest. He encouraged continued public support to help eliminate criminal activities in Taraba.
The successful capture of the attack’s mastermind marks a significant achievement for the troops and a step towards restoring peace and security in the community.
