MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv and GOtv in Nigeria, has denied reducing its subscription fees amid a recent decline in subscribers.

BusinessDay reported on Tuesday, citing a company source, that only the prices of decoders were reduced, while subscription fees remained unchanged.

“We only reduced our decoder prices, not the subscription prices,” the source confirmed.

MultiChoice Nigeria is currently challenging a ruling by the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) that requires the company to provide one month of free subscription services and to pay a N150 million fine.

This comes after the company announced an 18 percent drop in its Nigerian subscriber base for the first quarter of 2024. Since March 2022, MultiChoice has increased its subscription fees four times, with the latest increase of 17 percent occurring in April 2024.
