Popular Colombian singer and songwriter Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, known as Shakira, has expressed her admiration for Afrobeats and African music. She specifically mentioned her fondness for Nigerian artist Burna Boy and South African star Tyla.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Shakira revealed that she is a huge fan of African music. Shakira, popularly known for her feature in the 2010 World cup song titled “Waka waka (This time for Africa),” described her musical taste as eclectic, honest, and real.
“If I could describe my taste in music in three words, I would say eclectic, honest, and real. I love anything Afrobeats. I like Tyla, I like Burna Boy, anything Afrobeats. But I love Burna so much,” she said.
Shakira, born and raised in Barranquilla, Colombia, is often called the “Queen of Latin Music.” She previously sampled the African song “Zangaléwa” by the Cameroonian band Golden Sounds for her 2010 South Africa World Cup official song, “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).”
