Tinubu Appoints Former Economic Adviser Yakubu as Budget Office Chief

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr. Tanimu Yakubu as the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, succeeding Mr. Ben Akabueze, whose tenure has concluded.

Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, announced that Yakubu is a seasoned economist with a distinguished career.

He served as the Chief Economic Adviser to the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua from 2007 to 2010, was the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria from 2003 to 2007, and held the role of Commissioner of Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning in Katsina State from 1999 to 2003.

According to Ngelale, Yakubu holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance and a Bachelor of Science in Economics, both from Wagner College in Staten Island, New York.

President Tinubu thanked the outgoing Director-General, Mr. Akabueze, for his dedicated service and wished him success in his future endeavors.

He expressed confidence that the new Director-General will enhance the efficiency and quality of budget management, aiming to ensure fiscal sustainability, transparency, and accountability in public finance for national development.
