Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has declared a state of emergency in the education sector.

He made this announcement on Saturday while distributing educational materials to schools, awarding scholarships to students, and providing soft loans to teachers.

At the event, the governor stated that the state government has already recruited over 5,000 new teachers and plans to hire an additional 10,000. Moreover, 1,000 new classrooms will be constructed across the 44 local government areas in the state.

According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), as of October 2023, Kano had around one million out-of-school children.

This alarming figure prompted the state government to declare a state of emergency, aiming to deliver quality education throughout the state.
