Operations at Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Abuja airports have been severely disrupted following an indefinite strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The industrial action was declared in response to unresolved issues regarding the new minimum wage and increased electricity tariffs.

In Port Harcourt, workers under the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP) and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) blocked vehicular access to the airport, forcing passengers to walk to the terminal. Flights remain operational, but security is tight. ANAP’s Rivers State chapter chairman, Emmanuel Akagha, stated that while passengers can access the airport due to the road serving local communities, check-in and boarding processes are halted.

In Lagos, the strike has left many passengers stranded at Murtala Mohammed Airport II. The unions have locked the gates, preventing staff and passengers from accessing the terminal.

Abuja Airport is also affected, with few passengers seen outside the locked entrances and an empty terminal inside. No staff are present, and airline counters remain unattended.
