President Bola Tinubu emphasized the transformative impact of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, stating it will not only create millions of jobs but also benefit over 30 million Nigerians nationwide.
Speaking at the launch of the 700km highway’s construction and the procurement of the 1000km Sokoto-Badagry superhighway in Lagos, Tinubu highlighted their alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at leveraging Nigeria’s resources for development.
Describing the 700km superhighway as a critical element in enhancing connectivity and stimulating economic growth, Tinubu emphasized its potential to directly employ millions in coastal states while offering improved access to production and marketing centers. Beyond its infrastructural significance, he portrayed the project as a symbol of hope and unity, expected to foster trade, commerce, and tourism across nine states.
Tinubu also underscored the strategic link between the coastal infrastructure and key economic zones such as the Lekki Free Trade Zones, Deep Seaport, and Dangote Refinery, emphasizing the need to fully exploit these connections to benefit coastal communities.
Expressing his administration’s commitment to accelerating industrialization and creating job opportunities, Tinubu praised the resilience of key industrial players and highlighted Nigeria’s progress in establishing vital infrastructure despite challenges.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, awarded to Hitech Construction Company Limited under an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Financing (EPC+F) arrangement, commenced construction in March 2024. The initial phase, spanning 47.47 kilometers from Lagos, has been launched, with subsequent segments, including one extending from the Lekki Deep Seaport to the Ogun-Ondo boundary, progressing. Plans for independent segments linking Port Harcourt to Bayelsa and Delta to Ondo are also underway.
