Manchester City wins their fourth consecutive PL title

Manchester City triumphed 3-1 over West Ham at the Etihad Stadium, making history as the first team to win the English league title four seasons in a row.

City needed a victory to secure the title ahead of Arsenal, who were two points behind but had a better goal difference. Phil Foden gave Pep Guardiola’s side an early lead just two minutes into the match. He added another goal before halftime. Although Mohammed Kudus scored for West Ham, Rodri restored City’s two-goal lead with a strike from the edge of the box in the 59th minute.

A late scare occurred when West Ham had a second goal disallowed by VAR for handball, but City’s victory was never seriously threatened.

This win completed a remarkable run of 19 victories and four draws since their last league defeat at Aston Villa on December 6. City has now won six of the past seven Premier League titles. Last season, they matched the record of winning the league three consecutive years, joining Huddersfield, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United.

Now, Guardiola’s team has achieved something unprecedented in the 136-year history of the English league. On May 25, they will aim to become the first team to complete the domestic Double in consecutive seasons when they face Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

It has been 15 months since City were charged with 115 Premier League violations for alleged financial irregularities, which they strongly deny. Earlier this season, both Everton and Nottingham Forest were charged and penalized for breaching profit and sustainability rules, but there is no update on when City’s case will be resolved.
