Nigerian singer and Grammy Award winner, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has proclaimed himself the godfather of the Nigerian music industry.

He made this assertion in the remix of the viral South African song ‘Tshwala Bam’ by TitoM and Yuppe, which was released last week. In the song, Burna Boy sings, “As long as Naija la wa…Them they call me the Godfather.”

Burna Boy, who gained fame in 2012 with the release of “Like to Party,” has consistently asserted his position as the leader of the Nigerian music scene. Previously, he stirred controversy by calling himself the “blueprint” of the industry after his Grammy win.

Similarly, his colleague Davido has also claimed leadership in Afrobeats. In his fourth studio album ‘Timeless,’ on a track titled ‘Godfather,’ Davido declared himself the godfather of the Nigerian music industry.

Earlier this month, Nigerian music star Terry G reiterated his view that Burna Boy is currently the biggest Nigerian artist, although he added that Wizkid is the greatest Nigerian artist of all time.
