Nigeria’s Under-17 women’s football team, the Flamingos, secured a decisive 6-0 victory over Burkina Faso on Saturday in the second leg of the 2024 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying match.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the Flamingos dominated the game at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. Harmony Chidira scored the first goal in the 11th minute, and Peace Effiong made it 2-0 in the 34th minute. Despite some efforts from the Burkinabe team, they were unable to convert their chances.
In the second half, the Flamingos continued their dominance. Chidira netted her second goal in the 74th minute, further diminishing the visitors’ hopes. Ramata Kareem scored the fourth goal in the 83rd minute, and Chidira completed her hat-trick in the 85th minute. Effiong rounded off the scoring with her second goal in the 88th minute.
The Flamingos had previously drawn 1-1 with Burkina Faso in the first leg of the qualifier on May 11 in Bamako, Mali, giving them a 7-1 aggregate victory over the two matches. This win propels the Flamingos to the final qualifying round, where they will face either Senegal or Liberia.
