Emma Hayes describes Chelsea’s fifth consecutive Women’s Super League title as “without doubt, the toughest.”
A resounding 6-0 victory against Manchester United on the final day secured the title for Chelsea, edging out Manchester City on goal difference.
Hayes, 47, concluded her 12-year tenure as Chelsea manager with her seventh WSL title.
“I can’t say it’s my most enjoyable, but it’s definitely been the toughest, and for that reason, probably the sweetest,” she told Sky Sports. “I’m just so relieved it’s over.”
“The hardest thing to do is five in a row because people lose focus. My legacy is winning while building a team for the future.”
Hayes is set to become the manager of the United States women’s team before this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris.
During her time at Chelsea, Hayes has won seven league titles, five FA Cups, two League Cups, and a Community Shield.
Reflecting on her tenure at Chelsea, Hayes told BBC Sport: “I don’t think I have the words. I’m filled with a mix of emotions. Knowing it’s the end and I won’t be with this team or these fans again… but they’ll always be in my heart. I’m ready. I’ve given everything I’ve got. [I am] ready for my next adventure.”
