Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Toyin Abraham, has reached out in friendship to her colleague, Funke Akindele, following years of intense rivalry between them.
This message was revealed In a heartfelt post shared on her Instagram page on Sunday, April 21, 2024, alongside a photo of Akindele, Abraham reflected on the fierce competition they experienced in the Yoruba movie industry in the past.
She recalled the competitive atmosphere where camps were formed, leading to animosity among actors striving to claim the top spot. Abraham emphasized how gossip and rumors exacerbated tensions within the industry before the advent of social media.
Abraham reminisced about the days when Akindele was a prominent figure in the Yoruba Nollywood scene, ranking closely behind veterans like Bukky Wright and Fathia Williams. She acknowledged feeling compelled to compete with Akindele for recognition, leading to a rivalry between them. However, as Akindele transitioned to the English Nollywood sector, Abraham became a leading figure in the Yoruba industry before eventually exploring opportunities in the English sector.
Reflecting on their journey, Abraham described herself and Akindele as competitive Virgo women who were driven to succeed. However, with time and maturity, she recognized the need for healthy competition devoid of negativity. Abraham extended an olive branch to Akindele, praising her for breaking barriers and inspiring others with her success.
She highlighted Akindele’s groundbreaking achievement of grossing ₦1 billion at the box office, a milestone previously considered unattainable for women. Abraham expressed admiration for Akindele’s determination and the impact of her success on empowering other women to dream big.
In a gesture of goodwill, Abraham pledged to support Akindele and celebrate her accomplishments, even in the competitive landscape of the box office. She humorously mentioned owing Akindele a promotional post in December and concluded by sending her best wishes for continued success and fulfillment of her dreams.
