The High Court of Ikeja in Lagos State has issued an order for the detention of former Central Bank Governor of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Emefiele will remain in custody until the court reconvenes on Thursday, April 11, to decide on his bail application.

Justice Rahman Oshodi also ruled for the detention of Emefiele’s co-defendant, Henry Omoile, at Ikoyi Prison until the court’s decision on his bail application on Thursday.

These directives came after the court considered bail applications filed by their legal representative, AbdulHakeem Labi-Lawal.

Labi-Lawal requested the court to grant Emefiele bail either on self-recognizance pending the hearing and determination of the case or under the most favorable bail terms. He made a similar plea for the second defendant.

Rotimi Oyedepo, the EFCC’s legal counsel and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, did not oppose the bail request. He instead urged the court to exercise its discretion in granting bail.
