The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has announced that the implementation of the new electricity tariff for Band A consumers will commence on April 3, 2024. This information was disclosed in a statement issued by the company’s Management.Â
According to the statement, Band A consumers with prepaid meters will be the first to experience the tariff adjustment when they make purchases through their meters starting from the mentioned date.
The statement from the company reads, “Please be advised that the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC) has initiated the implementation of the revised Service-based Reflective Tariff as approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) specifically for Band A customers.” It further states, “The new tariff will take effect from April 3, 2024.”
Moreover, the company mentioned that postpaid consumers will receive bills reflecting the new tariff at the end of the month. It also encouraged customers to check the company’s website to determine their feeder classification, i.e., the band they belong to.
The statement elaborates, “Customers with prepaid meters will be the first to encounter the revised tariff – N225/kWh – when they top up in April. As for postpaid customers, the revised tariff will be reflected in the electricity bills they receive at the end of April 2024.”
Earlier this week, the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) announced a revision of the electricity tariff for Band A consumers nationwide. The review led to an approximately 300% increase in electricity tariffs for these consumers, rising from N68 per kWh to N225 per kWh.
NERC clarified that the tariff hike only affects about 17% of electricity users across the country who enjoy over 20 hours of electricity supply daily. It emphasized that consumers in other bands receiving fewer hours of electricity remain unaffected, and their tariffs remain unchanged.
