The Federal High Court in Lagos has delivered a verdict against the controversial figure Bobrisky, also known as Idris Okuneye, for his involvement in the abuse of the Naira
Bobrisky was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with four counts related to Naira abuse. Following a thorough examination of the case, Justice Abimbola Awogboro found him guilty.
Despite Bobrisky’s plea to the court and his assertion of not being aware of the law concerning Naira abuse, he ultimately confessed to the initial four charges. He highlighted his status as a social media influencer with a substantial following. However, the judge emphasized that ignorance of the law does not excuse one’s actions.
Bobrisky expressed remorse for his behavior and appealed for an opportunity to educate his followers about responsible money handling, offering to create a video for this purpose.
As a consequence of the conviction, Bobrisky faces the possibility of a six-month prison sentence, a fine of N50,000, or both, in accordance with Section 21(1) of the CBN Act 2007, which stipulates penalties for tampering with currency issued by the Bank.
