Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has issued a cautionary statement, asserting that those misinterpreting his commitment to implementing the presidential peace accord as weakness will be surprised by his actions.
He emphasized this during a meeting with members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) from the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
Governor Fubara expressed his restraint amidst media scrutiny regarding the peace pact implementation, stressing the need for clarity. He clarified that the resolution accepted after President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the State’s political crisis was a political solution, emphasizing his adherence to it out of respect for the President. However, he warned against misconstruing his humility and compliance as weakness.
Addressing the NULGE members, Governor Fubara highlighted the overwhelming support his administration continues to receive from the people. He underscored his administration’s focus on positively impacting lives and implementing policies without external influence.
Governor Fubara assured the workers of his commitment to their welfare, mentioning the initiation of the N30,000 minimum wage for local government workers and plans for further benefits. He emphasized the importance of upholding peace and obedience to rules while promising to stand by those who do what is right.
In response, NULGE representatives expressed gratitude for Governor Fubara’s support, particularly for addressing worker grievances and restoring hope. They pledged continued support at both state and national levels.
Furthermore, the Rivers State chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) affirmed the workers’ solidarity with Governor Fubara, warning against any attempts to undermine his leadership. He vowed to take action, including occupation of relevant spaces, should the State House of Assembly initiate impeachment proceedings against the governor.
