The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that during the 2023 Direct Entry (DE) registration, it identified over 1,665 counterfeit A’level results.

Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB, shared this concerning statistic during a meeting with the National Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) in Bwari, Abuja.

This crackdown on fake A’level results stems from widespread corruption in the admission process, prompting JAMB to prioritize restoring its integrity. Prof. Oloyede emphasized the significance of safeguarding the credibility of A’level certificates, especially in securing admission, through robust and enduring verification measures.

Highlighting a troubling case at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), where only a small fraction of Direct Entry applications featured genuine certificates, Prof. Oloyede stressed the urgent need for action. Consequently, stakeholders proposed initiatives such as establishing an A’level result verification task force and implementing a unified platform for swift and reliable certificate verification.

To underscore the gravity of the situation, JAMB instituted a “no verification, no admission” policy. Additionally, institutions with a significant number of unverified candidates are required to pre-verify applicants’ certificates before completing their DE registration.
