Amidst efforts to overhaul the nation’s healthcare system and achieve Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC), the Nigerian government has greenlit the disbursement of N25 billion to key healthcare agencies.
Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, unveiled this funding initiative, underscoring the administration’s steadfast commitment to revolutionizing healthcare delivery across the country.
In an official statement from the ministry’s spokesperson, Deworitshe Patricia, Pate highlighted the adoption of a Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) and the Health Sector Renewal Investment Programme (NHSRIP) as strategic frameworks to drive healthcare transformation.
Pate emphasized the imperative of revamping the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) and its associated programs to ensure enhanced efficiency, accountability, and public trust.
Moreover, Pate outlined plans to overhaul guidelines to encompass healthcare provisions for marginalized communities, with a primary focus on reducing maternal mortality rates, alleviating out-of-pocket expenses, and standardizing healthcare quality across primary facilities nationwide.
The minister stressed the collaborative efforts between the ministry and its partners to establish robust governance structures and clear directives aimed at facilitating equitable access to healthcare services for all Nigerians, particularly women, children, and vulnerable groups.
Aligned with the NHSRIP, the overarching objective is to minimize the need for patients to undertake arduous journeys for medical care, thereby fostering an environment conducive to improving the holistic health and well-being of all Nigerians.
