Bello El-Rufai, representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has rejected assertions labeling former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as anti-Christian.

Bello countered these claims by highlighting the close relationship between his father and Peter Jones, a Christian from Cross Rivers State, who has been a significant figure in El-Rufai’s life since childhood.

Addressing misconceptions about his father in a podcast conversation with Seun Okinbaloye, Bello emphasized Nasir El-Rufai’s straightforward nature and the lack of concern he holds for altering public opinion about him. Bello stressed the personal nature of religion, noting that despite accusations of religious bias, El-Rufai’s relationships and actions reflect a more inclusive approach.

Bello recalled instances during El-Rufai’s tenure as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory when religious structures, both mosques and churches, were demolished, leading to allegations of religious discrimination from various quarters.

However, Bello suggested that such perceptions might stem from misunderstandings or biases among religious leaders rather than reflecting his father’s true stance on religion.
