Kaduna Governor Urges Proactive Approach to Combat Poverty and Insecurity

The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani delivered a candid assessment of Nigeria’s pressing issues, emphasizing that poverty and insecurity stand as the nation’s paramount challenges.

Speaking at the 6th Annual Interfaith Peace Conference, organized in partnership with the Kaduna State government and themed “Tackling Poverty and Insecurity in Nigeria: Our Collective Responsibility,” Governor Sani chaired the event.

In his address, Governor Sani underscored the urgency of addressing poverty and insecurity, noting their profound impact on the nation’s political landscape. He criticized the prevailing approach of political leaders, characterizing it as reactive rather than proactive, especially in the realm of security.

Highlighting poverty as a destabilizing force and a significant obstacle to democratic progress, Governor Sani emphasized the need for comprehensive solutions to address developmental deficiencies across various sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and security.

Governor Sani called for a united effort among stakeholders to confront these challenges, stressing the importance of evidence-based strategies derived from thorough research. He urged a shift towards proactive measures in security planning, advocating for a deeper understanding of the socio-cultural and political nuances of Nigeria’s diverse regions.

Furthermore, Governor Sani emphasized the role of strategic planning in reshaping Nigeria’s security architecture to effectively address evolving threats. He urged security leaders to adopt a more nuanced approach, moving beyond tactical responses to cultivate a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics at play.

At the conference, both the Secretary-General of the Jama’atu Nasir Islam (JNI), Prof. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel C. Okoh, echoed Governor Sani’s concerns, highlighting the need for concerted action to combat rising poverty and insecurity.
