Former lawmaker and social critic, Senator Shehu Sani, expressed dismay on Friday at the silence of 35 state governors regarding allegations that they each received N30 billion from the federation account to address inflation and soaring food prices in their states.
The concern arose after Senate President Godswill Akpabio mentioned an “unverified report” suggesting that state governors had been allocated N30 billion each from the federation account to mitigate economic hardship and hunger in their respective states.
However, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State swiftly refuted Akpabio’s claim, asserting that there was no truth to the assertion that states received an additional N30 billion beyond their regular allocations.
As the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Makinde emphasized that Oyo State did not receive such funds and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency.
Senator Sani questioned why only Governor Makinde had responded to Akpabio’s claim, urging the remaining 35 governors to address the matter promptly.
