Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has called upon residents of the state to adopt proactive measures to protect themselves against bandit attacks, instead of solely relying on government intervention.
The governor issued this plea on Friday at the Government House in Katsina during a comprehensive emergency security meeting.
Emphasizing the urgent need to tackle the increasing insecurity, food shortages, and poverty within the state, Radda underscored the importance of immediate action.
The meeting, attended by security chiefs, leaders of paramilitary agencies, prominent traditional rulers from Katsina and Daura, and senior government officials, aimed to address the security situation and its related challenges.
“We convened this meeting to assess the security situation, as well as the escalating poverty and food shortages in the state. We must analyze the security landscape and take decisive steps to find solutions and mitigate these challenges. Besides insecurity, there are other pressing issues such as the soaring food prices and hunger among the populace,” stated the governor.
Radda expressed the state government’s readiness to support any community that organizes itself within their respective areas by providing training and logistical assistance.
Furthermore, he mentioned the state government’s contemplation of establishing a task force to combat the increasing food prices and insecurity in the state.
Assuring the populace, the governor pledged swift action from the state government to prevent the occurrence of riots similar to those witnessed in Kano and Niger states from spreading to Katsina State.
