Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag emphasizes the importance of discipline both “on and off the pitch” for footballers.
His remarks come amidst scrutiny surrounding England forward Marcus Rashford’s behavior, who reportedly frequented nightspots in Belfast. Rashford subsequently missed United’s training session due to illness after returning from Northern Ireland, and he was absent from Sunday’s FA Cup victory over Newport.
Ten Hag refrained from discussing Rashford’s situation directly but emphasized the necessity of discipline for players, stating, “It’s nothing to do with me but in football, you need discipline and that is on the pitch but also off the pitch.”
Allegations in the Sun regarding Rashford’s behavior raised concerns, marking the third time in 13 months that Ten Hag has addressed off-field issues with Rashford.
However, Ten Hag dismissed suggestions that Rashford’s actions showed disrespect towards him, stating, “It’s nothing to do with that but as I said, let’s focus on the game, let’s move on.”
Rashford is included in United’s squad for their match against Wolves, with Ten Hag hoping to capitalize on his recent form, which includes two goals and an assist in his last two Premier League appearances. He highlighted the developing rapport between Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund, expressing a desire to continue fostering their relationship.
