The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law has called for the removal of Minister Hannatu Musawa, citing violations of the National Youth Service Corps Act.

The association has also demanded the annulment of Musawa’s and music promoter Kenny Ogungbe’s NYSC certificates, alleging discrepancies with the NYSC Act provisions (Cap N84.LFN 2024).

In a lawsuit marked FCH/ABJ/05/90/2024, NBA-SPIDEL Chairman John Aikpokpo-Martins and Secretary Funmi Adeogun named Musawa, Ogungbe, NYSC, and the Federal Government of Nigeria as defendants. They argue that the duo’s enrollment in the NYSC after turning 30 was unlawful and unpatriotic.

The plaintiffs seek a court declaration that Musawa and Ogungbe are ineligible for employment without valid NYSC certificates, as per Sections 2(1), 12(1), and 13(1) of the NYSC Act. They also demand Musawa’s removal from public office for violating the Act.

Previous accusations from the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria and social media controversies have further fueled the debate. Efforts to reach Musawa for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting
