The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has announced that the police force is taking steps to review and potentially enhance the pension system for retired police personnel.
In 2023, the IGP convened a meeting with retired and serving police officers, along with pensioners, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja to address pending issues related to police pensions.
According to a statement by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer at Force Headquarters, Abuja, the IGP reassured both serving and retired officers that the current administration prioritizes the improvement of police officers’ welfare, particularly in terms of retirement benefits. The IGP is committed to establishing a pension scheme that ensures the financial well-being of officers.
The statement emphasized the IGP’s call for calm among serving officers and retirees, urging everyone to cooperate with the force’s leadership. Efforts are underway to formulate a pension regime that better serves the interests of police retirees. The IGP believes that solidarity and cooperation during this period will contribute to the development of a practical Police Pension Scheme that comprehensively addresses the needs of retired police officers, enhancing the well-being of the entire police family in Nigeria.
