Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, inspected the facilities of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Abuja on Monday in preparation for the upcoming automation of the passport application process set to commence on January 8, 2024.
Tunji-Ojo shared a series of photographs from the inspection on his X handle on Tuesday, accompanied by a caption that read, “Yesterday, I conducted an in-depth examination of the #nigimmigration facilities alongside the Comptroller General of the Service, Wura-Ola Adepoju. This precedes the imminent automation of the passport application process starting from January 8, 2024, allowing Nigerians the convenience of applying and completing their passport applications online without the need for direct human contact.”
The minister had previously announced in December that the Federal Government was actively working towards implementing a fully automated system for passport applications in the country. During that announcement, he specified that the automated application system was on the brink of completion at 99%, outlining that the streamlined process would involve the online uploading of passport photos and supporting documents.
