Late Luiz Penalty Lifts Aston Villa Level on Point with Liverpool at The Top

Aston Villa pulled level with Premier League leaders Liverpool in a thrilling match that ended with a late Douglas Luiz penalty securing a victory against a 10-man Burnley.

In the 89th minute, Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz confidently converted from the penalty spot after Jhon Duran was fouled by former Villa player Aaron Ramsey.

Despite Burnley twice equalizing in the game, including Lyle Foster’s second equalizer while playing with 10 men due to Sander Berge’s second yellow card, Villa managed to clinch the win.

Moussa Diaby restored Villa’s lead in the 42nd minute, responding to Leon Bailey’s opener that had been canceled out by a swift equalizer from Zeki Amdouni.

With this crucial victory, Villa now stands at 42 points, trailing behind Liverpool only on goal difference. The Reds are poised to face Newcastle United on New Year’s Day. Despite a resilient performance, Vincent Kompany’s Burnley remains five points away from safety.
