President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a directive for the reinstatement of the school feeding program, a crucial move aimed at tackling the challenges associated with out-of-school children.
The program, which had been suspended during Ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, is now slated for revival under Tinubu’s leadership. Tinubu emphasized the program’s significance in addressing the learning crisis, expressing concerns that failure to confront this crisis would impede efforts to address the out-of-school children issue.
The Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman, disclosed this directive during a one-day retreat focused on swift achievements in ministerial deliverables from 2023 to 2027. Notably, President Tinubu instructed the transfer of the school feeding program from the Ministry of Humanitarian to the Ministry of Education. The retreat’s overarching goal was to develop effective strategies for implementing policies, assigning responsibilities to various agencies to effectively tackle the out-of-school children problem.
