Vice President Shettima Unveils Bold Agenda to Transform Nigeria’s Education System

Vice President Kashim Shettima has strongly reiterated the federal government’s unwavering determination to overhaul the nation’s struggling educational system, emphasizing the creation of a modern and inclusive learning environment for students.

Speaking at the University of Maiduguri 2023 National Alumni Association reunion dinner and award night in Abuja, Shettima underscored the commitment to aligning the educational sector with global standards through the allocation of resources, expertise, and political support.

Represented by Dr. Mohammed Bulama, the director general of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), the vice president outlined the government’s priority for tertiary education, stating, “We will use the opportunity of our presence in this government, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, to bring a new lease of life for Nigerians.” He emphasized the administration’s belief that Nigeria’s most crucial asset is its human capital, and thus, they will spare no effort to develop the educational sector in accordance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda.

Barr. Afiniki Hananiya, the acting national president of the association, elucidated the purpose of the dinner, highlighting its role in showcasing alumni members who have excelled in their respective careers. The awards, according to Hananiya, serve as proof of their dedication, hard work, and the indomitable spirit instilled by the University of Maiduguri.

The vice chancellor, Prof. Aliyu Shugaba, expressed enthusiasm over the achievements of the alumni, and notable awardees included Emir Aminu Ado Bayero of Kano, Senator Ahmed Ibrahim, Professor Babagana Zulum, Dr. Agbo Kefas, Orji Uzor Kalu, and Tukur Buratai, among others.
