Taraba State’s Deputy Governor, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali, has called on relevant authorities to ensure essential facilities are provided for communities along the borders.
This appeal was made during a workshop organized by the National Boundary Commission on Thursday, where six deputy governors from states sharing borders with Cameroon were in attendance.
The participating states, which include Adamawa, Benue, Cross Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Borno, and Taraba, stressed the crucial need for collaborative efforts in addressing the challenges faced by communities along the Nigeria-Cameroon international border.
Alkali, who also serves as the chairman of the State Boundary Committee, emphasized the necessity for proactive measures that could shield these communities from encroachments and enhance their resilience against border-related challenges. He underlined that the prompt consideration of this proposal would significantly strengthen the capacities of local border authorities.
In his role as the chairman of the State Boundary Committee, the deputy governor underscored the collective responsibility required to achieve the goals set by the National Boundary Commission.
He expressed gratitude to the commission for its unwavering support and specifically commended its timely intervention in recent border crises affecting communities in Taraba and Gombe states.
