Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially endorsed the N800 billion 2024 Appropriation Bill, one day after its presentation to a limited group of lawmakers.
The budget, titled ‘Budget of Renewed Hope, Consolidation, and Continuity,’ was introduced before a House of Assembly comprising four members, led by Speaker Edison Ehie.
The signing ceremony took place in the conference room of the Government House in Port Harcourt, with Deputy Governor Prof Ngozi Odu, current and former members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers supporting Governor Fubara, and various Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen from Local Government Areas in attendance.
During his address, Governor Fubara emphasized the budget’s commitment to essential infrastructure investments, including the second phase of the Trans-Kalabari road, addressing the socio-economic needs of the community.
This development occurred against the backdrop of the controversial demolition of the Assembly complex, with the Ehie-led group declaring vacant the seats of 27 members who defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Speakership tussle between Ehie and Martins Amaewhule remains an ongoing legal dispute.
