The Federal Government has officially announced the commencement of palliative road projects in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) before the onset of December.
This revelation was made by the Federal Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, in a statement he personally issued on Monday. Responding to heightened public concerns regarding the deteriorating condition of several federal roads nationwide, Umahi, the former governor of Ebonyi State, assured the Nigerian populace that the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu is firmly committed to alleviating the challenges faced by motorists navigating these problematic roads.
Umahi underscored that President Tinubu inherited numerous sections of roads in a state of disrepair across the country, including notable examples such as the Makurdi-Nsukka 9th Mile Road, East-West Road, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Benin bypass road, collapsed bridges on the Enugu-Port Harcourt road, collapsed bridges on the Shandam-Plateau State route, Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road, and Gombe-Bauchi.
Moreover, Umahi disclosed that President Tinubu has approved N100 billion out of the N300 billion allocated to the Ministry of Works for immediate palliative interventions in all states and the FCT. Emphasizing President Tinubu’s directive, Umahi stated that work on these palliative projects is slated to commence before December 1, 2023, with a commitment to upholding due processes.
Addressing specific concerns raised by the public regarding consistently problematic road sections across the North and South regions, Umahi affirmed that these areas have been isolated for immediate attention. President Tinubu has mandated swift action on these identified roads, and work is already underway. Umahi encouraged the public to independently verify the progress and provide feedback.
