The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared plans to conduct new elections in 59 polling units situated in the Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of the state.
INEC National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this information, specifying that the election is slated for Saturday, November 18, 2023.
The decision comes in response to reported irregularities, including the completion of result sheets prior to the commencement of voting, notably impacting nine out of 10 Wards in Ogori/Magongo LGA. Haruna also highlighted similar incidents in Adavi, Ajaokuta, Okehi, and Okene. Citing electoral regulations, INEC underscored the imperative for a fresh election in the affected polling units, in accordance with Section 24(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and Clause 59 of INEC Regulations and Guidelines on the Conduct of Elections 2022.
