The Ondo State government strongly rebuts the claims made by the Ogun State government alleging encroachment by Ondo citizens into Ogun territory and attacks on Ogun indigenes in Irokun Kingdom, Ogun-Waterside Local Government Area.
The Ondo government categorically denies these assertions, asserting that the areas in question are constitutionally part of Ondo State.
Ogun State Deputy Governor, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, had accused the Ondo government of assaulting Ogun citizens in Irokun kingdom, attributing the encroachment to individuals from the Ilaje region of Ondo State.
In a prompt response, the Ondo State government, represented by Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, dismisses the allegations as “patently false” and part of a consistent pattern of propaganda by the Ogun State Government. Ademola-Olateju finds the declaration by the Ogun State Deputy Governor that they won’t cede any land to Ondo State as “comedic.”
Emphasizing a commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of its citizens, the Ondo government highlights the historical responsibility of both states in managing territorial disputes, given their shared boundaries. Contrary to Ogun’s narrative, the Ondo government contends that conflicts in coastal areas arise from Ogun State officials’ activities in regions firmly under Ondo State’s undisputed administrative control.
To clarify, the Ondo government specifies that communities such as Irokun, Obineyin, Araromi, mentioned in the Ogun State Deputy Governor’s press conference, are not subjects of dispute between the two states. These towns are firmly within Ondo State territory, with a visible presence of the state government affirming its administrative authority over these areas
