President Tinubu Extends Condolences to Canada Over High Commission Fire Tragedy

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conveyed his condolences to the Canadian government, the diplomatic community, and all individuals affected by a fire incident that transpired on Monday at the Canadian High Commission in Abuja.

In his message, the President has provided reassurance to the Canadian authorities of the complete support of the Nigerian government in assisting both diplomatic and local staff of the High Commission who were particularly impacted by this unfortunate incident.

President Tinubu also extended his prayers for the souls of those who lost their lives and expressed his wishes for a speedy and complete recovery for all the injured individuals.

As per reports, the fire incident, which took place at the generator house of the High Commission situated on Diplomatic Drive in the Central Business District of Abuja, resulted in the tragic loss of two lives.

The Head of Public Affairs at the FCT Emergency Management Agency, Nkechi Isa, has confirmed this tragic development. According to Nkechi, a diesel tank explosion within the generator house at the Canadian Embassy in the Federal Capital Territory led to the unfortunate demise of two individuals. Two survivors are currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital Trauma Centre, grappling with severe burns.

However, it’s worth noting that the FCT Fire Service effectively managed to contain the fire at approximately 12:30 pm.
