NLC President Plans Medical Trip Abroad After Assault in Imo State

The NLC President found himself in a distressing situation when law enforcement officers detained him on Wednesday, November 1st. Subsequently, he was released with visible injuries that left his face marked with bruises and significant swelling.

Following a painful encounter in Imo State on Thursday, Comrade Joe Ajaero, the esteemed President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), is making arrangements to seek medical treatment abroad.

It is worth recalling that Zeewade reported on the unfortunate incident, revealing that the labor leader’s detention in Imo state on Wednesday resulted in facial injuries.

On that fateful Wednesday, the NLC president embarked on a trip to Owerri with the purpose of organizing Imo state workers for a peaceful protest rally. The protest aimed to address alleged infringements and misuses of workers’ rights and privileges by the state government.

However, according to eyewitness accounts, the protest took a distressing turn as unruly individuals disrupted the peaceful demonstration, engaging in violent altercations with demonstrators and union leaders. What was initially intended as a nonviolent protest transformed into a scene of chaos and unrest.

The injuries sustained by the NLC president during this altercation were found to be of such severity that they necessitated medical attention beyond the capabilities of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owerri. This information was conveyed by NLC press secretary Benson Upah, who shared the distressing details with The Nation on Thursday.
