Senate President, Godswill Akpabio Leads Delegation at Historic African Group Meeting

Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Nigerian Senate, has led the Nigerian delegation to the inaugural meeting of The African Group at the 147th Interparliamentary Union Assembly, currently being held in Luanda, Angola.

It’s worth noting that this assembly is being hosted by the National Assembly of Angola.

This 147th IPU Assembly serves as a pivotal platform for parliamentarians, partner organizations, and experts to exchange valuable insights and commit to the overarching theme of “Parliamentary Action for Peace, Justice, and Robust Institutions.” This theme is closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16, which emphasizes the importance of peace, justice, and the establishment of strong institutions as a cornerstone of the entire development agenda.

During this assembly, a comprehensive set of actions will be deliberated upon. These actions aim to cultivate trust between the general public and their governing bodies, enhance the effectiveness, accountability, and representation of public institutions, and empower parliaments to effectively address the myriad interconnected geopolitical, economic, and environmental challenges that the world is currently grappling with.
