French authorities are ramping up security for the France vs. Scotland football match in Lille following a recent act of terrorism in Brussels.
Two Swedish nationals were fatally shot in Brussels, allegedly by a 45-year-old Tunisian named Abdesalem, who was in the country illegally. The European qualifying match between Belgium and Sweden was halted due to this incident.
In response, French Minister for Interior Affairs, Gerald Darnanin, has ordered increased troops at the border and a doubling of police and gendarmerie presence for the Lille match. Scotland, who secured Euro 2024 qualification after Norway’s failure to defeat Spain on Sunday, is set to face the two-time world champions at 20:00 GMT.
