The ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict has raised concerns for the safety and well-being of Nigerian pilgrims, as stated by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
Rev. Daniel Okoh, the President of CAN, released a statement in Abuja, urging the suspension of pilgrim airlifts until the situation stabilizes.
CAN unequivocally condemned any form of violence that endangers innocent lives and stressed the importance of proportionality and safeguarding civilians. The organization called for proactive efforts by religious leaders and communities in Nigeria to foster understanding, compassion, and harmonious coexistence among various religious groups.
Okoh appealed for an immediate cessation of hostilities and advocated for dialogue and diplomatic resolutions to bring an end to the conflict. He expressed deep sorrow for a recent surprise attack on Israeli citizens, resulting in the tragic loss of lives and abductions, including women and children, undermining global peace initiatives.
Okoh underscored the sanctity of human life and the principles of justice and peace, as upheld by the Christian faith, and urged all involved parties to engage in dialogues and seek diplomatic solutions. CAN offered prayers for the souls of those who perished in the violent attack and the ongoing war, as well as for reconciliation, healing, and lasting peace in the region, with a plea to God Almighty to comfort the affected families.
Additionally, the organization called upon the international community, including the United Nations and other stakeholders, to intensify their efforts in facilitating a just and enduring resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
In conclusion, CAN encouraged all religious congregations in Nigeria to engage in fervent prayers for peace and unity in the region, emphasizing the protection and well-being of those affected by the conflict and the swift release of abducted individuals, emphasizing the Christian faith’s call to be peacemakers and agents of reconciliation, even in the midst of conflicts and adversity.
