A lawyer representing Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, has accused President Bola Tinubu of submitting a counterfeit degree certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in preparation for the election.
This revelation came during a press conference organized by Atiku Abubakar following the release of President Tinubu’s academic records by Chicago State University.
Kalu, the lawyer, detailed several ways in which the documents support the allegations of forgery. Firstly, they suggest that Bola Ahmed Tinubu forged the certificate presented to INEC. Secondly, the documents indicate that the qualifying certificate from South West College to Chicago State University is linked to a female, casting doubt on its ownership by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Meanwhile, the admission form from Chicago State University suggests that Tinubu attended Government College Lagos and graduated in 1970, even though the school was established in 1974. Additionally, the documents reveal that the owner of the academic records is a black American, contradicting Tinubu’s claim of not having dual citizenship in the documents submitted to INEC.
Atiku Abubakar is currently pursuing legal action in the Supreme Court to challenge President Tinubu’s election victory, after his petition was dismissed by the Presidential Election Tribunal. As part of his strategy to contest the election results, Atiku initiated legal proceedings in the United States, resulting in the release of President Tinubu’s academic records.
Kalu Kalu emphasized that the Supreme Court has historically allowed parties to introduce new evidence, provided certain conditions are met. He asserted that these conditions have been satisfied, based on the legal proceedings in U.S. courts. He also emphasized the legal principle that parties found at fault should not benefit from their wrongdoing.
